Saint Barts, Saint Barths, Saint Barthelemy

However you spell it the place is the same. Probably the best place on earth. Rappers, actors, dignitaries and captains of industry agree. St. Barths (my spelling choice) is unlike anywhere else. Lennie and I have traveled extensively in the warmer parts of the Western Hemisphere and there aint nothing like it. This is why it took 2 videos to fully document our travels there but they still miss 90% of the restaurants, beaches and countryside.

Yes this is France

The Euro, croissants, small cars and all that. We first met St. Barths by accident. In 2000, we were looking for a charter adventure outside the BVI so we rented a 36 Beneteau from Moorings in St. Martin. We had a cruising guide that mentioned the island as a 1 or 2 night stop. Since the wind prevails from the East we decided to go “into it” and hit St. Barths first on our 7-day itinerary. We were pretty young and green at this but when we hit the island and saw the “Quay” and all the yachts backed up against it and of course the Louis Vuitton store right behind them and with ZERO poverty we knew we were somewhere special. Long story short it wasn’t much of a cruise as we spent 5 nights backed up to the quay living like rich French people. It’s the kind of place that makes you sad when you leave and gives you a little feeling that Europeans might just “live” a little better than we do.

And back again and again

In 2013 we sailed our Hunter 49 to the St. Barths area and left it there in for 5 months. We took 4 trips to the island and then headed back to the BVI. When we left Florida on the Leopard 48 in 2015, we kept thinking the BVI was the “end” of the thorny path for us because that is conventional thinking. However, since the day we signed the contract on the Leopard, a year before, my mind was on the bay of Columbier in Saint Barths – I knew that was the place that would make us feel like we had “arrived”.

    Hi Randy and Lennie!

Wow you work so very hard at creating high quality videos for us in the office to enjoy at lunch time. I was a SeaRay owner in Ft. L and I think we once met at a meet and greet for the SeaRay owners at Bassett Boats. Were you a member. I also was a communications engineer in the Ft. L area and upper keys. I just cant place where it was. Lennie (ohh so sweet and smoking hot) was not there but wish she had been. Please don’t tire of the work and editing as it is so wonderful for working/land locked people all over the world to enjoy. Would like to share more of the costs of you journeys so we can have an idea how to budget ie. moorings, fuel at various locations, stores, dining out, etc.

Hi John, Thanks for watching. I agree we may have met as your name sounds familiar. I like your idea for a video on cruising costs. I will work on it. Sounds like you have an idea of how much time the editing takes! Keep watching, Randy

    Hey Randy and Lennie,
If you were in Afghanistan, the Pleasure Police would arrest you for having TOO MUCH FUN. St. Barths, here I come.
