Saint Lucia to Grenada Part 1

Adjective/ LEN-Knee / Def 1. The act of being a Lennie

Okay so this was different. We arrived in Saint Lucia and were in a hot rush to get the boat provisioned and fueled for a 6 AM departure. We usually fill the fuel on arriving to an island but we forgot to and now we are reminded why. Fuel docks don’t open until 8 or 8:30 then it takes about 30 to 45 minutes at the dock. Sailboats are slow. So you need an early start. So getting fuel before departure doesn’t work if you want to arrive at your destination before nightfall. Why? Because you haven’t been there before and don’t know where the shallow spots are. Now do you see how much planning is needed to enjoy this carefree lifestyle? I thought Lennie was a planner at home. I was excited to get her away from work and schedules (she’s a GC and schedule is everything) but was I wrong. She could build a high-rise with the effort that goes into her cruise planning.

So back to the fuel dock…..we were late and it closed at 5…. 4:45 arrive, 4:46 throw dock lines, 4:47 “Hey Happy Together!” hello I said…. “I follow your YouTube channel and I bought a Leopard 40” What is this? A fan on the fuel dock? Sure enough. The gentleman catching our lines was Chris Read and he is a recent purchaser of a leopard 40 and apparently watching our YouTube channel might have helped. We did a quick interview with him, as the dock attendants wanted us fueled and gone. It was a pure delight to meet him and talk about his boat delivery. Chris is featured in this video. He is officially our first groupie.

Looks good on paper…….charts

Leaving Saint Lucia we headed south to the Grenadines. Officially it’s Saint Vincent and the Grenadines but I am petitioning them to call it the Grenadines and Saint Vincent. Why you ask….security. Cruisers are in full avoidance mode. It’s sad to see it this way. In 2008 we sailed to Saint Vincent and spent a few days. We stopped in Walalaboo where they filmed pirates and we spent the night at young island and had an awesome resort party complete with steel drums and school choirs. But now even the Prime minister agrees that yachties wont come. Rape, murder, assault and more bad stuff has rendered it off limits. The Volcano, hiking and history are for some future generation of cruisers when they get their shit together. I understand there are economic issues, but lots of the southern islands have that without this amount of crime.

Grenadine and Rose’

The good thing is you bypass SV and land in Bequia (pronounced “Beckway”) and this island rocks. It’s like a normal people version of Saint Barths – small enough to feel like a tropical island and big enough to rent a car. They have some great restaurants and water attractions but the people and the vibe are cool. Strange that it’s just 7 miles across to Saint Vincent? It is the first of the Grenadine islands and we loved it!

Here is Part 1 of our video from Saint Lucia to Grenada. It was adventurous and you will meet and hear about some Leopard owners along the way.

Beckwee ought to extend that DL for another 6 months after that shoutout! Love the drone shots and music was (as always) on point.

      HI Rick,

I agree. I also should get resident status and a beach named after me! Thanks Randy
